The Difference Between a Pretty Brand and a Profitable Brand
As female marketers, we loooovvveee a pretty brand. However, a pretty brand and a profitable brand are two very different things.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting your business to look good. We are big fans of a cohesive color palette, a great font, beautiful photos, and a website that feels polished, but if your branding stops there, you may be missing the part that actually helps your business grow.
A brand should do more than just look good - it should make people understand your business and make them remember you. It should make it easier for them to trust you, connect with you, and choose you over other businesses. A profitable brand usually has a few things working together:
Clear messaging: People should be able to quickly understand what you do and who you help.
Consistency: Your website, social media, emails, graphics, and overall tone should feel like they came from the same business.
A defined audience: Your brand should not be trying to speak to everyone! It should connect with the people you actually want to work with.
An easy next step: If someone likes what they see, they should know exactly what to do next, whether that is calling, booking, shopping, or filling out a form.
A personality people can remember: Your brand should feel like YOU, not like every other business in your industry.
A lot of businesses get stuck because they spend time choosing colors, updating their logo, taking new photos, or making their Instagram feed look more cohesive, but they never stop to ask if any of it is actually helping move people closer to becoming a customer.
A profitable business may not be the flashiest one in the room, but it is the one that makes the most sense and has the most cohesion! For example, someone lands on your website and immediately knows what you do. They scroll through your social media and get a feel for your personality. They see your content multiple times and start recognizing your business before they even read the name.
The goal is for your branding to all work together. Your logo, website, social media, emails, and messaging should all feel connected and help guide people toward becoming a customer. Pretty branding still matters, but strategy is just as important!
At Express Strategic Services, we love creating brands that look good, but we care even more about making sure they make sense for your business. Pretty is great and all, but pretty and profitable is even better.
